small glimpse of reflection
"The high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have now heard the blasphemy; what do you think?" They answered, "He deserves death!" Then they spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him, and said, "Prophesy to us, You Christ; who is the one who hit You?"
(Matthew 26:65-68)
Reading and reflecting on this short passage today, I saw/related to it in a new light - How often are we (am I) guilty of this; of 'spitting' in Christ's face - of disowning Him, putting other vanities before Him, of questioning His plans for me, of simply disregarding who He is without even thinking about it, even if just for a moment - I can only imagine that to a God who cares so unfathomably much and who has poured out so much for us, that this, is like 'spitting' in His face in disdain. I often question, how we fall into this way of life - how can one turn away from a God who is so magnificent in His love, grace, etc. - we fall so immeasurable short of the goal.
But there is a hope, in spite of our weakness...
"All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him."
(Isaish 52:6)
seriously...its profound - i cannot even begin to comprehend it, but it remains to be truth! May we seek to walk in a manner far from this and rather than spitting in His face, lifting Him up, glorifying Him in all aspects of life for all that He is.
